CURRENT LIFE REGRESSION & INNER CHILD THERAPY
What is current life regression?
Current life regression, sometimes called inner child therapy, involves briefly revisiting the memory of an earlier life event, within a state of calm relaxation, in order to reframe and release it. Saying the things you couldn't say and visualizing yourself doing the things you couldn't do at the time, can be a powerful way of removing the emotional charge and impact from a past memory or event.
Past events, whether consciously remembered or not and whether deeply or mildly traumatic by your current standards, may have created a pattern of reactions which have continued ever since. You can think of it like an old computer program created for you at the time of that event. The program has been running in the same way ever since without an upgrade, driving the same behaviours and reactions.
Mentally revisiting that earlier life event from the perspective of your current, older, wiser self and giving the younger 'you' the support he or she didn't have at the time can be deeply healing. Re-experiencing those events from this wider, more neutral perspective, with the strength, emotional maturity, resilience and communications skills that you have now, but didn't have then, can help to release wounds from the past and start to bring about the possibility of their healing.
How will it benefit me?
Current life regression and inner child therapy aim to change the inner programs that drive your thoughts, actions, behaviours and reactions. If you have an old event, consciously remembered or not, significiant or not, that has been quietly whispering to you for years that you are not capable, worthy, lovable or enough, then revisiting and changing that association can bring rapid relief.
Revisiting and releasing in this way results in you feeling lighter and happier. You may find that that event or memory just doesn't hold the same charge that it used to. It doesn't drive your reactions in the same way anymore. Ultimately it can be let go of and the lens with which you view the world with can begin to change.
Reconnecting with the younger you in this way can be especially helpful if self-care, self-love, self-respect or self-hatred is an issue for you. For some, these sessions are life changing. For almost everyone, they are deeply nourishing, profound and often quite moving.

How does it work?
Each time you recall a memory you effectively re-embed it in your brain and strengthen it. So the way you recall that memory and what you do with it as you recall it, can either strengthen it or weaken it. Think of someone who gets angrier each time they talk about a past event. For certain memories, especially those with a strong emotional charge, talking about it whilst beneficial, may not be enough to release its emotional grip.
In such situations, regression can be helpful. Revisiting the event, from the calm emotional state of inwardly focused relaxation gives you greater perspective. Viewing the event from different viewpoints also helps. For example, viewing the situtuation as if from behind the eyes and with the perspective of your current self, rather than your younger self. Perhaps the greatest healing however, comes from the increased sense of agency and the opportunity to visualise yourself, as if it were happening right now, saying or doing whatever you couldn't or didn't say or do at the time. Experiencing different ways in which that event could have gone and the part that you played in it, can be like rewriting the event and the reactions that it drives.
Of course, some events that continue to negatively impact us have been long forgotten. During a regression session you may find yourself recalling minor social pinches that you haven't thought about in years, whilst recognising the impact they have been having on you. And they don't have to be big traumatic events to create an impact. Sometimes minor challenging interactions, at school or in your early career can continue to leave their mark. During the session we will come forward through your life, seeking out any of these social pinches that may have been forgotten about, but which may be contributing to your issues. Resolving some of these memories can be like wiping the slate clean.
Many therapies work on a similar basis. Functional imagery training, imagery rescripting or eidetic imagery therapy are all variations on the same theme; namely rewriting an old painful memories into something more positive and helpful.
Virtual sessions lasting 2-hrs are offered to accommodate different global time zones. We will typically focus on one main issue per session, but positive effects often extend to other areas of life as well. Most clients see good results within 1-3 sessions, which may involve multiple services. Please be aware that I work exclusively with motivated individuals who are dedicated to making genuine changes in their lives.
