It may be helpful to know that there are valid physiological reasons why we might be tempted to snack or shop online later in the day when our willpower and emotional control is reduced. A tired Prefrontal Cortex (the part of the brain that manages decision, planning, control etc.) means we can’t easily regulate our wants, giving in to short-term pleasures. Once everything is refreshed through a good night’s sleep, willpower can return. In addition though, we may also begin to lower the volume on the reward response and possibly switch the mind to associating reward with different, more helpful things or actions, through some of these services.

Parts Therapy This is often a good first choice for issues around inner conflict. Although you may want to be healthy and look good for example, another much stronger part of you seems to sabotage that, ‘making’ you eat or remain on the sofa. Understanding the moment this part of you came into being and the role that it is doing for you, can be insightful. Finding a new, alternative ‘job’ for that part of you, so that it can continue to drive you, but in a more helpful direction, can be effective. Whilst you should seek additional support from your doctor in the case of addictions, for simpler drives, such as snacking, shopping etc., parts therapy can bring positive results.

Current Life Regression Returning back to a key moment of challenge earlier in life and stepping into that memory to give yourself the comfort, love and support that you didn’t have back then, may be a way of more permanently filling the desire for comfort and love, that your habits are currently attempting to do. Nurturing yourself in this way can help to rewrite the past.
