Reducing anxiety & relaxing the mind

DEEP HYPNOTIC RELAXATION

What is deep hypnotic relaxation?

Deep hypnoctic relaxation is often used at the beginning of a session to bring focus and relaxation. It can also be used for an entire session itself, if you are unfamiliar with guided relaxation or are in need of deep relaxation.

Tension Release or Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) is often used within the deep hypnotic relaxation to rapidly remove anxiety and calm the mind and nervous system. It works by progressively tensing and releasing all the major muscles groups, to remove all physical tension. The quiet, calm and serene relaxation that follows is often further enhanced with positive, calming suggestions and imagery. This wonderful combination is recommended at any time for stress, anxiety, overwhelm or for an emotional reset.

How will it benefit me?

Deep hypnotic relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation can be used to start a session or as a full one-off session to help manage stress during major life events or as part of regular, ongoing mental and emotional self-care. For extreme levels of stress, anxiety or analytical thinking, a session of deep hypnotic relaxation may be recommended as the first session, to help calm the conscious mind and nervous system, ready for follow up regression sessions. Appropriate positive suggestions can also be incorporated into the relaxation, when they are more likely to be heard and accepted by your subconscious.

Quieting your noisy, busy, analytical conscious mind in this way, allows you to reconnect with the wiser, calmer, more objective you, helping bring more clarity and perspective to you life. You can think of it as a sort of brain training, teaching your mind and nervous system to consciously relax. Once you’ve got the hang of PMR you can secretly and effectively apply it in the midst of many stressful situations, giving you an additional tool to manage stress, anxiety or emotions.

How does it work?

Anxiety is a familiar, if unwelcome companion to many of us. It accompanies us on our most significant events, quietly questioning and casting doubt on our abilities, our personalities and our futures. Anxiety and physical tension are deeply intertwined, with a long evolutionary history. One usually results in the other. Anxiety results in muscle tension, that can sometimes last years. And any form of physical tension will often result in anxiety. It's a link we probably know, but don't think enough about because ...

  • You cannot reduce anxiety if physical tension remains

  • You cannot remove physical tension if you remain anxious

We mistakenly believe that watching TV or reading a book will calm us down and relieve our anxiety. But they often do little to help, because we may still be tensing or holding core muscles, such as abdominals, eyes, throat or shoulders. But, the good news is ...

  • Anxiety cannot remain, in the complete absence of physical tension

Progressive muscle relaxation is a rapid and effective, evidence-based technique. It was introduced by Jacobson in the 1920s and has been used by clinicians ever since.

Sessions are available in-person in Clare, Suffolk, UK and virtually on Zoom, with availability to suit global time zones. Each session is unique and thus session lengths can vary. Please allow for a maximum of 2 hours.
