About the workshop

  • Effortlessly challenge the opinionated inner critic that creates your sense of imposter syndrome

  • Change the story about yourself within your inner mind, using a variety of guided imagery techniques

  • Relaxing small-group guided visualization workshop. Just close your eyes

  • Recommended for those feeling like a fraud or undeserving of their own accomplishments

Do you have an inner critic that tells you you’re not good enough, smart enough or experienced enough? A lot of capable people do. Whilst there are many therapies that can help you to delve into the reasons why, if you’re having a challenging time at work, perhaps all you want is to simply quieten that voice down for a while.  Thankfully there’s now an easy, simple and effortless approach, using the power of your inner mind and imagination, to begin to challenge and change your own narrative about yourself. This small-group workshop is an easy first step towards upgrading your own, often incorrect, beliefs about yourself and your abilities.

It uses a combination of deep relaxation techniques, plus vivid visualization and hypnotic suggestion, where you’ll be guided to visualize your own accomplishments in a different, more positive way. All you need do is imagine along with the suggestions given. Participants typically report feeling lighter, brighter and just more positive about themselves afterwards.

  • After introductions, the session begins with some brief theory about what imposter syndrome is and the many different reasons for why it occurs. Following an initial 'warm up' visualization practice, the majority of the session is a 60-75min guided visualization using techniques* such as, celebrating your accomplishments, recognizing your inherent qualities and bringing forward qualities from the future more accomplished version of you, framing and mentally rehearsing different ways to manage situations that were impacted by your imposter syndrome. After more positively worded self-belief suggestions, we'll conclude by adjusting some of your mental 'settings' around yourself and your own self-belief levels. This session aims to help you to begin to internalize the feelings of success and accomplishment, so that your inner feelings can become more aligned with how others view you.

* Actual techniques used may occasionally alter from those described here

How it Works

  • Group size (1-12)

  • Session length: approx 2-hrs

  • Evening zoom sessions to minimise work disruption

After introductions and some brief brain-related theory, you’ll be gently guided whilst in a calm and relaxed state through a variety of imaginary presentations. If you have done hypnosis or guided meditations before then the experience will be familiar to you. If not, think of this inner mind journey as similar to an immersive VR experience, but with your eyes closed and your imagination providing the immersive experience. All you will need to do is to imagine along to the instructions given, in a quiet and undisturbed place where you can safety relax. Most participants are easily able to focus along with the guided visualization for the duration and feel calm and relaxed afterwards. At points during the session you’ll be asked to silently self-assess your own self-belief level. We will conclude with a brief group check-in and next steps.
